Dr. Eddie Floyd spent his career as a heart surgeon. The Lake City native was born into a family of tobacco farmers who prized education, and Floyd became the fourth generation of his family to graduate from the University of South Carolina. In 1982, he began serving on the USC Board of Trustees, when he resigned in 2024, he was the university’s longest-serving board member. The Dr. Eddie Floyd Florence Tennis Center, named in his honor, opened in 2011, and the Floyd Football Building at USC is named for Floyd and his late wife, Kay.
