I am Darrian Love, M.Ed., an educator, entrepreneur, and advocate for creating meaningful educational opportunities for children and families. Throughout my career, I have dedicated myself to helping students grow academically while recognizing that every learner deserves an individualized approach to success. As the owner and program director of Collegiate Academy of Carolina, I have expanded my work from providing tutoring in homes, schools, and after-school programs to developing an educational resource center offering tutoring, intervention, enrichment, home school support, and innovative learning experiences. My long-term goal is to continue expanding Collegiate Academy of Carolina into a trusted educational resource that provides accessible, high-quality programming to students and families across South Carolina and beyond. I also hope to continue growing as an educational leader while creating opportunities for other educators to make an impact. Giving back to my community means using my education, experiences, and resources to create opportunities that may not otherwise exist and ensuring families know they have someone invested in their children’s success.

Favorite Quote and Why: My favorite quote is, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world,” by Nelson Mandela. This quote resonates with me because I believe education has the ability to change the trajectory of a person’s life. As an educator, I have seen how the right opportunity, support, and encouragement can help a student recognize potential they may not have seen in themselves. It also reflects why I am passionate about creating educational opportunities beyond the traditional classroom. Whether I am teaching, supporting families, developing new programs, or giving back to my community, I want my work to leave people with greater opportunities than they had before. To me, education is more than academics, it is about access, growth, confidence, and giving people the tools they need to build a better future.

Definition of a Successful Leader: To me, a successful leader is someone who understands that leadership is not defined by a title, but by the impact you have on the people around you. A successful leader leads by example, listens to others, communicates with purpose, and is willing to make difficult decisions when necessary. Most importantly, they recognize the strengths and potential in others and create opportunities for them to grow. I believe true leadership means being willing to serve alongside the people you lead rather than simply directing them. Success is not measured only by personal accomplishments, but by the people you have encouraged, supported, and helped become successful along the way. A successful leader leaves an organization, team, or community stronger because of their leadership while inspiring others to become leaders themselves.

Advice to 18-Year-Old Self: The advice I would give my 18-year-old self is to trust the journey, even when it does not look exactly like the plan you created for yourself. I would tell myself not to be afraid of taking risks, changing directions, or pursuing an idea simply because other people may not understand the vision yet. Some of the greatest opportunities will come from moments that initially feel like setbacks, uncertainty, or starting over. I would also remind myself that success does not happen overnight. Every classroom, student, challenge, degree, leadership opportunity, and even mistake will eventually contribute to the person and professional I am becoming. Most importantly, I would tell 18-year-old me to stop worrying so much about having everything figured out. Work hard, remain teachable, build genuine relationships, and continue creating opportunities for yourself and others. The path may change along the way, but that does not mean you are headed in the wrong direction.
